Welcome to the Democracy Protection Network

This application is for organizations and individuals seeking assistance from the Democracy Protection Network (DPN).

In order to help the Democracy Protection Network (DPN) understand your needs, please fill out the form below. The more details you can provide in the application, the more effective we will be in responding to your request.

We will respond to your request within 3 business days. If you are in immediate danger, please contact 9-1-1.

This application is submitted to DPN through an end-to-end encrypted platform. Any information you submit will be confidential, though it will be shared, as needed, within the DPN network of providers. The DPN is not a law firm; your submission does not create an attorney-client relationship and is not subject to attorney-client privilege.

DPN coordinates two types of support: (1) crisis response and (2) preventative assistance.

Crisis Response

This can be accessed by eligible organizations and individuals who have been singled out and face an immediate threat from public or private actors, such as threats of violence, subpoena letters, inquiries from law enforcement agencies, online targeting, or other concrete actions. The crisis assistance the DPN can offer includes:

  • Legal: DPN can provide legal services to eligible applicants at no cost. Once the specific type of legal issue is identified, DPN will connect the applicant with legal counsel that has the relevant expertise for the issue(s) at hand.
  • Cybersecurity: DPN’s cybersecurity partners provide customized guidance to nonprofits 501(c)3s and individuals seeking incident-response guidance, support with increased negative attention across social media platforms, threat monitoring and early warning systems of increased risk, and removal of personal identifying personally identifiable information (PII).
  • Physical security: DPN’s physical security partners can conduct a threat and risk assessment, improve physical security protections, advise on risk mitigation practices, and provide physical protection.
  • Crisis communications: Strategic communications experts provide one-on-one consultations on how to respond during public targeting, how to help manage media attention, and steps to reduce reputational risk.

Preventative Assistance

This can be accessed by 1) eligible individuals and organizations working to protect U.S. democracy and 2) those who have a credible fear they will be targeted in a way that poses a threat to democracy.

  • Legal: DPN provides preventative legal services including one-on-one consultations with lawyers who can (1) provide high-level advice about how to prepare for a congressional, criminal, or tax investigation; and (2) help jumpstart organizational compliance and governance programs.
  • Cybersecurity: DPN’s cybersecurity partners provide access to a membership-based online learning community that helps members understand threat trends, improve their digital security practices and identify best practices. DPN partners can provide training and customized guidance to nonprofits (501(c)(3)s) seeking to improve their digital and information security practices.
  • Physical security: DPN’s physical security partners can conduct a threat and risk assessment, improve physical security protections, advise on risk mitigation practices, and provide physical protection.
  • Crisis Communications: Strategic communications experts provide one-on-one consultations to develop a proactive approach to potential exposure and targeting by developing public communications strategies and a crisis communications playbook.

Not everyone is eligible for our services. If you’re unsure if you qualify, visit the DPN eligibility page to learn more.
